About Isla
Hello!
I'm Dr. Isla Oliver, but please call me Isla (like “island” without the “nd”), and I'm so glad you've found me. I'm a Certified Nurse Midwife with my Doctorate of Nursing Practice who specializes in gynecology with a focus on hormones and chronic conditions such as PCOS, PMDD, endometriosis, and more.
“Midwife” literally means “with women,” and that's why I chose this path. I love working through problems side by side with my patients and sharing what I know to help find the right solution for each person.
Many people don't realize that midwifery care extends far beyond pregnancy and birth. It includes reproductive, sexual, and gynecologic health from puberty through the end of life.
For me, all of the changes and challenges women and gender diverse patients face outside of pregnancy are the most fascinating—and deserving of far more time, energy, and study than our society usually offers.
I have dedicated my career to learning as much as I can about menopause, perimenopause, and sexual and reproductive health. I attend national and international conferences and courses, and I follow the gold standard of menopause treatment from The Menopause Society. For the past two years, I’ve been practicing in a high‑volume, full-scope but menopause‑heavy clinic. Before that, I worked in another busy reproductive and sexual health clinic. In both settings, I’ve been able to hone my skills and, most importantly, listen closely as patients share their day‑to‑day experiences—both of their symptoms and with the healthcare system itself.
The most common themes I hear are that people feel unheard, invalidated, gaslit, or ignored. Many are told they simply have to live with their symptoms. That has never felt acceptable to me. In previous roles, I often felt my ability to truly serve my patients—to give them the time, curiosity, and critical thinking they deserved—was limited by constant pressure to see more people, bring in more revenue, and sustain ever‑growing healthcare organizations.
This is why I decided to start my own practice. I believe patients deserve more time with their provider. They deserve clear, reliable communication. They deserve to be heard and believed, and to have the time and space to understand what is happening in their bodies. Too often, women’s health is mystified or brushed off as “just hormones,” when hormones are an understandable, explainable process. My goal is for you to understand your body as deeply as I do, and to feel like we are working with it—together.
That’s what you can expect from me: a provider committed to telling you the truth, with as much detail as you want about what we know—and don’t—based on evidence and clinical experience. I will do my best to truly understand what you’re going through, without trying to sell you anything or rush you out the (virtual) door. I know what it feels like not to be believed about your own experience, and I don’t think that has any place in healthcare.
There is just one thing that I ask of you; please remember that I am just a human. A human with extensive training in this area and a license to prescribe, but still a person. I live in Everett with my husband, two black cats, our border collie mix Miss Bella, and a very, very old lizard named Scamp. At the time of writing, I have ten nieces and nephews that I’m absolutely obsessed with and wish I could see every day. I love musical theater, comedy, chemistry, and physics; and gynecology is absolutely my special interest that I could talk about all day. I’m passionate about my community, my family and friends, and I would do anything for the people in my life. I cry at dog videos on the internet, and believe every human has the right to be exactly who they are, and love whoever they love. I love being outside, which these days looks more like a hike to a cozy cabin or a walk on the beach than former days spent backpacking deep into the wilderness. I also love to travel, mostly for all the delicious things I can eat, and to escape the rain every now and then. I think about what I can do to make the world a better place every single day and constantly worry I'm not doing enough.
I feel incredibly lucky to have been invited into the lives of so many patients. Whether I am catching babies or helping someone navigate the wild world of perimenopause and menopause, I truly love this work.
My Values
Time & Presence
I believe healing starts with being heard. My practice is built on providing the time and space necessary for thorough, compassionate care without the rush of traditional medical settings.
Evidence-Based Truth
I try to bridge the gap between complex science and clinical experience, offering clear, honest information so you can make empowered decisions about your health based on facts.
Radical Validation
Your symptoms are real and your experiences matter. I refuse to brush off concerns and instead work with you to understand the underlying processes as best we can.
